The June Edition
“June was white. I see the fields white with daisies, and white with dresses; and tennis courts marked with white." - Virginia Woolf, The Waves
June was hazelnut coffee, evergreen forests, and fluffy stacks of American pancakes covered in maple syrup and berries. It was road trips, and ripe cherries, and emerald lakes so clear you could see your future in them. It was Aperol margaritas consumed poolside, and slipping into a hotel-provided terry cloth robes that smelt of fresh laundry. It was steaming mugs of earl grey tea and breathless laughter and forgetting that social media exists. It was pie for breakfast to fuel huge mountainous hikes and journaling next to fast flowing water. It was pleasure over routine and enjoyment without judgement. June was white, bright, and full of light ☆
Reading ~ beautiful stories
The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante
A quote that stuck with me: “Now that we were seventeen the substance of time no longer seemed fluid but has assumed a gluelike consistency and churned around us like a yellow cream in a confectioner’s machine.”

Breakfast At Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
A quote that stuck with me: “You know those days when you've got the means reds?’
‘Same as the blues?’
‘No,’ she said slowly. ‘No, the blues are because you’re getting fat or maybe it’s been raining too long. You’re sad that’s all. But the mean reds are horrible. You’re afraid, and you sweat like hell, but you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Except something bad is going to happen, only you don’t know what it is. You’ve had that feeling?’
‘Quite often. Some people call it angst.’
‘All right. Angst. But what do you do about it?”

Watching ~ movies I’ve recently enjoyed
My Old Ass, 2024
Starring Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza, My Old Ass is one of the best movies I’ve watched in a long time! Hilarious, devastating, and heartwarming, the story explores the various forms of love that humans experience in their life. From romantic, platonic, to familial affection, the film explores the different emotions that occur within us when new situations and people change our lives irrevocably.

We Live In Time, 2024
A woman rises early and runs through a misty woodland at dawn, where she cuts wildflowers that she places in a wicker basket for a floral bouquet. When she returns home she collects eggs from her garden chicken coop to crack, whisks, and cook into a breakfast meringue, which she then brings to her sleeping husband’s bed for him try…
This is how We Live In Time begins: a scene depicting the epitome of domestic bliss. But as you watch the movie, which is played out via a non-linear narrative, it quickly becomes apparent that this beautiful couple is dealing with various hardships that they are forced to endure together.
I watched this on the 8 hour plane journey to Canada and completely fell in love with the unique protagonists and inspiring storyline.
